Vision and learning are directly related. Some studies show that approximately 80% of what a child learns in school is information that a child received visually. It is no surprise then that good vision is essential for a student to reach his or her full educational potential.
Poor vision can impact classroom learning in many ways. Some students may see objects with clarity at close range but have difficulty with distance vision. Others have clear distance vision but have difficulty focusing on materials in front of them. Sadly, many of these students do not realize that the difficulty they are having with learning is not because they are not intelligent or not working hard enough but instead is related to not being able to see the information in front of them. Not knowing the cause of their learning difficulties, many students develop low self-esteem and subsequent poor behavior. These students are often labeled as behavior problems which can possibly follow them through adolescence. . The Ligenda School Vision Screening program is designed to identify children with possible visual difficulties at the earliest possible stage. This allows time for the child to get a diagnosis with treatment with as little interference with their learning as possible. Please click here to learn more about school vision screening.
